When it runs
Not published online. Wilkinson County posts no tax sale calendar, sale date, or sale notice on any official site. The Tax Commissioner's FAQ confirms the office runs the delinquent enforcement track, describing "legal action (levy and advertisement of tax sale)" against unpaid accounts, but gives no dates. The General Information page states "Generally, Wilkinson County property taxes are due by December 20. If taxes are not paid on the property, it may be levied upon and ultimately sold." The 2025 bills carried a mailing date of October 22, 2025 and a due date of December 22, 2025 per the banner on the county payment portal. Georgia levy sales statewide are held on the first Tuesday of the month at the courthouse, but that timing is not confirmed on any Wilkinson County page. Confirm the next sale date by calling the Tax Commissioner at (478) 946-2232.
Registration and deposit

Not published. Neither the Tax Commissioner site nor the county site lists bidder registration steps, deposit terms, or a registration form for a tax sale. No online bidder portal was found. Contact the Tax Commissioner at (478) 946-2232 for sale terms and registration requirements.

Sale format and venue
No online auction platform was found for Wilkinson County, so no platform URL is reported. The county's only online tax service is a Government Window payment portal at wilkinsoncountyga.governmentwindow.com, and its landing page offers a single service, "Tax" bill payment. Probes for tax sale and excess funds pages on that portal returned 404. The Tax Commissioner's own site (wilkinsonpaytaxes.net) has just five content sections (General Information, Homestead Exemption, Property Tax FAQ, Motor Vehicle pages, Contact) and none covers tax sales, sale dates, courthouse steps, bidder registration, excess funds, or redemption. The county website (wilkinsoncounty.net) returns no tax sale, delinquent list, or excess funds page in a full site search. The Clerk of Superior Court legal notices page lists only court orders and carries no tax sale or levy advertisements. The Sheriff's Office page carries no sale notices. Practical read for investors: Wilkinson is a small rural county that appears to run any levy sale in person on the courthouse steps in Irwinton and to advertise it in the county legal organ newspaper rather than online. Treat the Tax Commissioner phone line as the primary channel for the sale list and the sale date. Wilkinson County Tax Commissioner is Amanda Panther. FiFas are recorded on the General Execution Docket of the Clerk of Superior Court and remain in effect for seven years; a 30-day notice of intent precedes FiFa issuance.

  3. Sale day

Georgia rules

Redemption
The right to redeem runs for 12 months from the date of the sale and does not end there. It continues after the year until the tax deed purchaser forecloses it by serving and publishing the statutory barment notice, which cannot be started until 12 months have passed. The purchaser delivers the notice to the sheriff at least 45 days before the redemption deadline named in it, and publishes it once a week for four consecutive weeks in the six months immediately before that deadline. Redemption puts title back in the defendant in fi. fa. subject to the liens that existed at the sale, and the purchaser must execute and record a quitclaim deed. Title under a tax deed recorded on or after July 1, 1996 ripens by prescription four years after recording. Judicial in rem foreclosures under Article 5 run on a different clock: the owner has 60 days after the sale to redeem by paying the minimum bid price into the superior court.
Deed deposit
Georgia sets no statewide percentage deposit. A purchaser at a judicial sale may tender cash or a cashier's or certified check drawn for the purchase price and issued or certified by a federally insured financial institution. Counties publish their own payment terms, and many require payment in full at the close of the sale, so confirm the terms with the tax commissioner before bidding.
Surplus proceeds
Excess funds left after taxes, costs, and the expenses of the sale belong to the former owner and to recorded lienholders in order of priority. The officer who sold the property must mail notice of the excess funds by first-class mail within 30 days to the record owner at the time of the sale, to the holder of each security deed, and to every other party with a recorded equity interest or claim, and may file an interpleader action in superior court. Funds still unclaimed five years after the sale are paid over to the Georgia Department of Revenue, after which only a court order from an interpleader action releases them.
Governing statute
O.C.G.A. Title 48, Chapter 4

A tax deed does not convey marketable title. Most buyers file a quiet title action before they can resell or insure the property. See the due diligence guide.
