Registration and deposit

Bidding is online and requires a county assigned Bidder ID before sale day. Steps confirmed on the platform: (1) register an account at auctionhousellc.com; (2) complete Texas Comptroller Form 50-307, have it notarized, and take it to the Hidalgo County Tax Office, which issues the "County Tax Assessor-Collector's Written Statement Regarding Delinquent Taxes" confirming you owe no delinquent taxes in the county; (3) send that finalized statement to Auction House by email to customercare@auctionhousellc.com, in person, or by phone at 1-800-479-1137, and Auction House issues the Assigned Bidder ID Number. The platform warns to complete this "at least 24 hours prior to participation" and that "Without a completed and finalized Bidder Confirmation Form, you cannot bid in the County Tax Sale Foreclosure Auctions." A credit card preauthorization is also required, shown as "Pre-Authorization $250" on Hidalgo County lots, plus acceptance of the Sheriff's disclaimer on each auction. Bidder ID numbers are per county and typically expire after one year. Linebarger's Hidalgo County record adds: "Required an hour prior to the sale. Tax sale certificates will be issued NO LATER than 5:00 P.M, the Monday prior to tax sale. TAX SALE CERTIFICATES WILL NOT BE ISSUED DAY OF SALE." Payment terms: Linebarger lists "Cashier's Checks or Money Orders"; Auction House directs winners to its My Claims section for wire transfer instructions and proof of payment.

Sale format and venue
Hidalgo County sells redeemable tax deeds at an ONLINE auction, not on the courthouse steps. Linebarger's Hidalgo County record states: "Pursuant to Texas Tax Code 34.01, and as further provided in the Order to allow online auctions for Tax Foreclosure Sale and to adopt rules governing online auctions adopted by vote of Commissioners Court of Hidalgo County, Texas, on the 10th day of December, 2019. The sale shall be conducted by an ONLINE AUCTION at the following URL: https://auctionhousellc.com". On the August 4, 2026 sale the platform showed 28 Hidalgo County lots with opening bids from about $4,257 to $37,222, tagged to both Perdue Brandon and Linebarger. Linebarger's own Hidalgo County sale list PDF for 08/04/2026 showed 23 items, 20 marked "Scheduled for Online Auction" and 3 cancelled, with taxing units including Hidalgo County, South Texas College, and city and school districts across McAllen, Pharr, Donna, Mission, Weslaco, La Joya, Penitas, Progreso, and Edinburg. Struck-off inventory exists: Linebarger listed 53 additional Hidalgo County properties as "STRUCK OFF" and "Available for Future Sale," resold under Tax Code Section 34.05. Separately, the Hidalgo County Clerk posts a single consolidated first-Tuesday sale notice PDF that mixes tax foreclosures with mortgage substitute trustee sales held under Property Code Section 51.002 at the Hidalgo County Administration Building, 2802 S. Bus. Hwy 281, Edinburg, under the canopy on the west side. Do not confuse those mortgage postings with the tax sale, which runs online. Notice of the tax sale is typically published in the Advance News Journal per Linebarger's county record.

Hidalgo County tax sale list and auction calendar

For Hidalgo County tax sale 2026 searches, use the county-run sources below rather than a copied parcel list, and confirm the parcel, registration cutoff, deposit, and payment deadline against the county before you bid. If the parcels on this list are vacant land rather than houses, what buying land at a tax sale hands you is the place to start.

  1. Get the advertised list

Use Auction House property listings (filter County to Hidalgo County, TX) for the current advertised parcels, then recheck it before the auction.
  2. Register to bid

Bidding is online and requires a county assigned Bidder ID before sale day. Full requirements are in the sale card above.
  3. Sale day

First Tuesday of the month. Bidding runs on County site; check posted sale dates, registration status, and bidding windows there.
  4. Confirm with the office

If the list, platform, and notice disagree, use Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office (Sheriff J.E. "Eddie" Guerra), conducting the Texas Tax Code Section 34.01 tax foreclosure sale online through Auction House, LLC. Suits are prosecuted by the county's delinquent tax law firms, Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP and Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins & Mott, LLP. as the source to confirm which parcels are actually offered.

Before you bid in Hidalgo County

  1. Start with the live sale list

Pull the current advertised parcels from Auction House property listings (filter County to Hidalgo County, TX). Lists can change before the sale, so recheck the county source before you price a parcel.
  2. Confirm registration and deposit

  3. Check the state rules that change the bid

Read the Texas due-diligence checklist before bidding. Redemption, liens that survive a tax deed, title cleanup, and payment deadlines can change what a parcel is worth. Which liens survive is state law, so read what survives a tax deed in Texas before you price the title work.
  4. Set a walk-away number

Work out what the parcel is actually worth with the rural land value estimator, then turn it into a ceiling with the tax deed max-bid calculator.

Over-the-counter (leftover) purchases

Texas has no over-the-counter certificate list. Parcels that draw no sufficient bid are struck off to the taxing unit that requested the order of sale, and that unit may resell them at any time by public or private sale. A public resale requested through the sheriff or constable may be sold for any amount. A private sale generally may not go below the lesser of the market value stated in the judgment or the total judgments against the property, unless every taxing unit entitled to proceeds consents. Ask the county or its delinquent-tax law firm for the current struck-off inventory.

New to this path? Read how over-the-counter purchases work. Every state has its own name for what goes unsold, so check what Texas calls its leftover tax-sale inventory.

County notes

  • Sale type is a redeemable tax deed under Texas Tax Code Chapter 34. Section 34.21 gives the former owner 180 days to redeem at a 25 percent premium for most property, and 2 years at 25 percent in year one and 50 percent in year two for residence homestead, agricultural-use, and mineral interests.
  • Hidalgo County moved its tax foreclosure sales online by Commissioners Court order dated December 10, 2019, and runs them through Auction House, LLC (auctionhousellc.com), a Houston based platform. The Sheriff remains the officer conducting the sale.
  • Bidders need a Hidalgo County assigned Bidder ID before they can bid. That requires a notarized Form 50-307 processed by the Hidalgo County Tax Office into a written statement that the bidder owes no delinquent taxes, then submitted to Auction House. Budget at least 24 hours, and note Linebarger's warning that the county will not issue the statement on sale day.
  • Two law firms prosecute Hidalgo County tax suits and post lots to the same sale: Linebarger Goggan Blair & Sampson, LLP and Perdue Brandon Fielder Collins & Mott, LLP. Check both sources plus the platform to see the full sale list.
  • Many Hidalgo County offerings carry sale notes worth pricing in: "APPRAISED VALUE SALE" (opening bid set at adjudged value rather than taxes owed), "POSSIBLY LANDLOCKED," and "SUBJECT TO ... SUBSEQUENT TAX YEARS" meaning the buyer inherits post-judgment tax years.
  • A large struck-off inventory (53 parcels seen on Linebarger's list) is available for future resale under Tax Code Section 34.05, which is often the more accessible entry point than the monthly sale.
  • The Hidalgo County Clerk's consolidated first-Tuesday PDF is very large (739 pages for August 2026) and is dominated by mortgage substitute trustee sales, not tax sales. Use the platform and the law firm lists for tax sale research.

Texas rules

Redemption
The redemption clock runs from the date the purchaser's deed is filed for record, not from the sale date. Property that was the owner's residence homestead or was land designated for agricultural use when the suit or the warrant application was filed, and any mineral interest, may be redeemed on or before the second anniversary of that filing. Every other property may be redeemed only through the 180th day after the deed is filed. When a parcel is struck off to a taxing unit instead, the period runs from the date the taxing unit's deed is filed for record. The former owner has no right to use, possess, or collect rent from the property while the redemption right runs, and the right of redemption cannot be sold or transferred: any instrument purporting to transfer it is void.
Deed deposit
The Tax Code sets no statewide deposit and no buyer premium. Section 34.01 directs the officer to conduct the sale the way similar property is sold under execution, so payment terms are set locally by the officer who runs the sale. Most Texas counties collect the full bid in cash or by cashier's check on the day of the sale. Confirm the terms with the county before you bid.
Homestead deeds
Texas sets no separate opening bid for a homestead. What changes on a homestead parcel is the exit: a residence homestead, land designated for agricultural use when the suit or warrant application was filed, and a mineral interest all carry a two-year redemption right instead of 180 days, and the premium the owner pays can reach 50 percent in the second year. Price a homestead parcel for that longer clock.
Surplus proceeds
The officer pays any excess proceeds to the clerk of the court that issued the order of sale. The clerk holds the excess for two years after the sale and notifies the former owner when the amount exceeds $25. A claim must be filed before the second anniversary of the sale. The court pays established claims in statutory priority: a purchaser at a sale later adjudged void, taxing units for post-judgment or omitted taxes, other lienholders, taxing units for unsatisfied judgment amounts, and then the former owner. Anything unclaimed is distributed to the taxing units.
Governing statute
Tex. Tax Code Chapter 34

A tax deed does not convey marketable title. Most buyers file a quiet title action before they can resell or insure the property. See the due diligence guide.
